Engineering Design Element Considerations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a title=\"Fact Sheet: Administration Announces an Advanced Wireless Research Initiative, Building on President\u2019s Legacy of Forward-Leaning Broadband Policy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/the-press-office\/2016\/07\/15\/fact-sheet-administration-announces-advanced-wireless-research\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">White House<\/a> recently announced a $400 million research program, called the Advanced Wireless Research Initiative, aimed at building 5G wireless networks across the country. The National Science Foundation (NSF) will lead the project and study four &#8220;city-scale testing programs&#8221; to see how 5G wireless networks could be implemented over the next seven years.<\/p>\n<p>The big drivers for <a title=\"Lexodant Solar TechnologySupports New York State Wireless Association's 5G Seminar\" href=\"announcements\/kmb-supports-new-york-state-wireless-associations-5g-seminar\/\">5G<\/a> networks are due to the huge growth in mobile data demand, the need for additional broadband capacity, and the expected advances in Internet of Things (IoT) over the years.<\/p>\n<h2>Meeting Demands with 5G Networks<\/h2>\n<p>The 5G rollout will initially mean better mobile broadband services with faster speeds and lower latency. <em>See ya later, slow load times!<\/em> Some experts anticipate <a title=\"Recent Advances in Wireless Technology\" href=\"articles\/recent-advances-wireless-technology\/\">5G networks<\/a> to meet these minimum standards:<a href=\"wp-content\/uploads\/5G-Network.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2720\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2720 size-medium\" title=\"Here Comes 5G Network!\" src=\"wp-content\/uploads\/5G-Network-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Here Comes 5G Network!\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Download speeds at 10 Gbps or more (<em>bye-bye buffering!<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>Latency of less than 1 millisecond<\/li>\n<li>Network capacity up to 1,000x current levels<\/li>\n<li>Increase in reliability over 4G<\/li>\n<li>Higher energy efficiency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>5G Network Design, Engineering and Operational Considerations<\/h2>\n<p>With North America and Asia in the lead, 5G commercial services will be available for use by the year 2020, <a title=\"Time for a Network Upgrade\" href=\"articles\/time-network-upgrade\/\">surpassing the networks before it<\/a>: 4G LTE, 4G, 3G, etc. The new evolving network standards\u2014which won\u2019t be finalized until 2020 \u2013 will include a mix of different frequencies, technologies, and approaches.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Frequencies<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Cellular networks today use frequencies that range from 800 MHz to 1.9 GHz. Wi-Fi signals have frequencies that range from 2.4 GHz-5.8 GHz. But for the amount of data we download (and the speed need), that\u2019s not fast enough. 5G networks, on the other hand, will use much higher frequencies, ranging from 28 GHz, 38 GHz, or even upwards of 60+ GHz.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Antenna Design<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">In order to serve the (much) higher frequencies on which 5G will operate, antenna gains must also evolve. <a title=\"Smart Antennae: Critical for 5G\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abiresearch.com\/blogs\/smart-antennae-critical-5g\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Obtaining stronger signals with 5G<\/a> involves smarter antenna technology, more radio spectrum, and smaller cells. Time to pack more antennae into smaller spaces and get it done in a cost effective way.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Tower Placements<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">All of these changes will also require new considerations and upgrades for building wireless networks which, for example, could mean a shift from big <a title=\"Aesthetic Considerations for Telecommunication Tower Types\" href=\"articles\/aesthetic-considerations-telecommunication-tower-types\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">cell towers<\/a> that currently cover entire neighborhoods to many more, tiny access points that are placed closer together.<\/p>\n<h2>Lexodant Solar TechnologyStructural Engineering and Tower Colocation Services<\/h2>\n<p>The 5G network will be here before we know it, arriving at a blazingly fast wireless network speed\u2026 but that\u2019s what consumers want.
